Coaching Helps Young Entrepreneur’s Dreams Take Flight
Age is just a number when it comes to fulfilling the American dream! A coach from The Entrepreneur’s Source® helped a young entrepreneur spread his wings and launch a business straight out of high school.
Savvy Investment
Victor Guy grew up in a low-income area of Dallas, Texas, and relied on his grandmother’s guidance and support throughout his formative years. When he was only 13 years old, Victor used the allowance he received from his grandmother to purchase a few bitcoins. Bitcoin is a form of digital cash. It was introduced in 2009 as a decentralized digital currency in response to distrust of the financial markets after the crash in 2007.
Victor’s meager investment in 2016 turned into a windfall as the popularity of bitcoin took off. Selling his bitcoin on the cryptocurrency exchange during his junior year of high school opened Victor up to new opportunities. With his grandmother’s encouragement, Victor decided to pursue business ownership.
“Once I came across the money, man, I didn’t even know what to do with it! But I had people in my corner. My grandmother convinced me not just to blow off the money. I decided to start a business,” Victor said.
Coaching Guidance
During his search, Victor connected with Mike Rocci, a coach for TES, the nation’s leading career coaching franchise. TES coaches offer education-based strategies to help people explore their options, possibilities, and dreams. Mike empowered Victor to determine the best path to achieve his goals and guided him as he explored opportunities. Working with Mike enabled Victor to decide he wanted to pursue a business he could grow at his own pace. Victor wanted to launch his business as an owner-operator and expand as his customer base grew.
Victor started the coaching process while still attending high school. Mike served as a mentor to the teenager as he obtained his driver’s license and came to a point of clarity. He served as an initial point of contact for potential businesses to introduce them to the young entrepreneur.
“Victor didn’t want to follow the path he’d seen other people in his neighborhood travel down. He didn’t want to work a 9-to-5 job. He also realized he had the opportunity, instead of spending 4-6 years going to college, to spend those years building a business. He wanted to have his own company or franchise by the time he was 18 years old,” Mike said.
Mike started his future as a career coach in 2019 after spending nearly 35 years in the newspaper business. Initially, Mike joined the newspaper’s graphic design department. His aptitude for computers landed him a lead technology role. He moved up through the ranks and received accolades and praise for his performance. Consolidation in the newspaper industry added to Mike’s workload, forcing him to work long hours and spend time away from his family. Mike made the tough decision to take early retirement and pursue a coaching career to gain work-life balance and flexibility. Opening his own business allowed the single father to spend more time with his twin boys and his daughter and pursue his goal of having the flexibility to spend more time attending live music and festivals.
“Everyone on the team at The Entrepreneur’s Source is from diverse backgrounds. But they provide great support. The corporate office is full of really smart, intelligent people who truly care about us,” Mike added.
Grand Opening
After exploring, Victor launched a green and eco-friendly floor-cleaning business in the Dallas area. He held his grand opening in November 2021, just a few months after graduating high school. In addition to moving into his own apartment, Victor is slowly adding new customers and ramping up the business.
“Mike gave me the confidence to take the next step. He was there for me every step of the way. He kept my head up and gave me words of encouragement,” Victor said. “We had some great conversations, and he’s a great person.”
