Take a Holistic Approach to Your Future

Break free from what’s holding you back. Brad and Bonnie Collins worked with The Entrepreneur’s Source® to challenge the status quo and take charge of their future by adopting a Portfolio Mindset™.

Brad spent 27 years working diligently for large corporations in information technology, and Bonnie has a successful career in real estate. During Brad’s tenure in the corporate world, he honed his skills and garnered professional success. But the lack of job security and diminishing appreciation for his experience from a compensation perspective left him feeling battered and bruised. During his latest career transition, Brad knew it was time to make some changes.

“The technology market is dwindling, and the opportunities for people my age are limited,” Brad said. “I wanted to own something that would generate income and give me control over my paycheck.”

The couple attended a franchise expo in Houston to explore opportunities. They met with several franchisors before connecting with Craig Anderson, a Career Ownership Coach® for The Entrepreneur’s Source, the nation’s leading career coaching organization. After hearing about Craig’s entrepreneurial journey, Brad and Bonnie knew they could achieve their goals if they explored options holistically and with an eye to long-term gains. They decided to participate in career coaching to explore their options, possibilities, and dreams.

“We really connected with Craig’s story. Brad and Craig both have extensive business backgrounds and wanted to do something more rewarding,” Bonnie said. “Craig was a coach that encouraged us to change our mindset around our goals. He spent time with us in order to understand our desires and goals before presenting us to franchises that would provide us the ability to explore opportunities.”

The Case For a Portfolio Mindset
By adopting a Portfolio Mindset, individuals can cultivate a more strategic and versatile approach to decision-making, enabling them to navigate uncertainties, capitalize on opportunities, and create a balanced and fulfilling life and professional journey. A Portfolio Mindset emphasizes goals and outcomes rather than short-term gains and encourages diversifying your activities, skills, and relationships to reduce dependence on a single opportunity, such as a corporate job.

Craig began helping seekers cultivate a Portfolio Mindset as a coach two years ago when he retired from a long oil and gas industry career. As part of his corporate role, Craig led a team of 600 people and was tasked with leading divisions in Norway, Germany, Italy, and the United States.

“After spending so many years pursuing “success” in a fast-paced career, I did not find myself ready to retire, before I accomplished a new set of goals. You can only play so much golf,” Craig said. “My coaching business allows me a flexible schedule and to help people change their lives. It’s energizing to introduce people to alternatives to the traditional corporate mindset.”

Writing Their Own Success Story
Bonnie and Brad received guidance as they set their Income, Lifestyle, Wealth, and Equity™ goals. Through this educational coaching process, they could adopt a Portfolio Mindset and strategically approach their future. By prioritizing their long-term objectives and making well-informed choices, they recognized the potential of establishing a scalable business that could replace Brad’s income and offer them flexibility for their family lifestyle and with potential financial returns in line with their goals. After exploring several possibilities, they ultimately decided to collaborate with Furry Land to launch a mobile pet grooming business in the Houston area.

“We wanted a high-demand business opportunity,” Bonnie said. “Pets are family members, and people pamper them. They want convenient, personalized services, and we saw a high growth potential in this market.”

The couple purchased the Houston market, which has a minimum opportunity for 15 mobile vans. They plan to launch the business in September with two vans. Initially, they’ll concentrate on serving customers in Houston’s inner loop before expanding to the surrounding suburbs. As they build their customer base, the new business owners aim to add four vans per year. Initially, Brad plans to focus on operations, and Bonnie will spearhead marketing and business development.

“My rapport with Craig opened my eyes to the possibilities outside of having a W2,” Brad said. “He helped me see options to replace my income and provided clarity to help us make decisions about our future.”
