National Entrepreneurship Month

As we highlight National Entrepreneurship Month in November, consider discovering a profitable future by working with a Career Ownership Coach™ at The Entrepreneur’s Source® to follow a new path where you take the reins of your future.

America is a nation built on entrepreneurs. Americans have a long history of self-reliance, and entrepreneurship plays a prominent role in the American zeitgeist. Our founders embarked on a risky journey to the New World in search of religious freedom and a bright future. Throughout our country’s history, there are numerous examples of people who were willing to discover a new path and take charge of their future. Andrew Carnegie, Henry Ford, Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates and Mary Kay Ash are only a few of the innovative Americans who shaped our business landscape and helped fuel America’s success story.

There are 32.5 million small businesses in the United States, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration’s most recent report. The top three industries for small business employment are health care and social assistance, accommodation and food services, and construction. The outbreak of the pandemic also prompted many Americans to take a beat and evaluate their career future. Nearly 4.5 million applications for new businesses were filed in 2020, up 24 percent from the previous year, data from the U.S. Census Bureau revealed.

The future is bright for millennial entrepreneurs who make up 13 percent of the country’s small business owners, Guidant Financial reported. The millennial generation, which includes people born between 1981 and 1996, eclipsed baby boomers as the most numerous generation living today. While older generations dubbed millennials as “lazy” or “entitled,” they are taking entrepreneurship by storm. As small-business owners, millennials are achievement-oriented, cautious, self-disciplined and confident, according to research conducted by Cargo, a marketing firm using artificial intelligence technology. In addition to being major entrepreneurial players, 75 percent of millennial small-business owners are happy they pursued business ownership.

Starting in 2012, National Entrepreneurship Month is celebrated every November and encourages Americans to reflect on the important role business ownership plays in our nation’s history. “This month, we recognize the bold spirit of America’s entrepreneurs who continue to prove that the American dream is alive and more obtainable than ever before,” said former President Donald J. Trump, as part of an official proclamation of the event last year.

Entrepreneurship helps foster economic development in communities throughout the country, according to the Center for American Entrepreneurship, a nonpartisan Washington, DC-based research, policy and advocacy organization. By focusing on career ownership coaching, TES provides a resource for people to discover self-sufficiency. As the leading career coaching franchise, our nationwide network of coaches, at no cost, help Americans who are enduring a career transition or are interested in a different future.

Halt Battered Career Syndrome®

After spending years climbing the corporate ladder, many Americans are feeling battered and bruised about their future. Battered Career Syndrome® happens when hard-working Americans lack job security and are fearful their corporate jobs will be outsourced or downsized. Many people riding the corporate hamster wheel are also feeling squeezed financially. They are doing more work for less money and finding themselves adrift and unable to achieve a satisfactory work-life balance. They also struggle with disconnecting from their corporate jobs.

“I had a successful corporate career as an accountant, but I worked a lot of long hours with no flexibility or quality of life,” said Dwayne DuBose, who kicked his corporate career to the curb in 2019 when he started helping others achieve their dreams as a Career Ownership Coach™ for TES. “Even when I was at home with my family at the dinner table, the stressors at my job prevented me from spending time with them. I was present, but I wasn’t present.”
