Coaching Empowers Canadian Marketing Executive to Kickstart New Business Venture

Career coaching from The Entrepreneur’s Source® opened a Canadian marketing and agency executive’s mind to the possibility of a future as a digital marketing business owner.

Toronto native Craig MacPherson spent 30 years in the fast-paced world of marketing. His focus on marketing for technology companies allowed him to work with firms ranging from SaaS technology startups to global Fortune 500 enterprises including Microsoft, where he helped oversee the launch of the Xbox game console, and IBM’s artificial intelligence division where he introduced solutions aimed at preventing future financial system meltdowns. But working in Toronto required long hours and lengthy commutes. When he was at a crossroads in his career, MacPherson turned to Bob Terrell, a Career Ownership Coach™, to explore new possibilities with better work-life balance and financial security.

“Working in the tech industry is not for the faint of heart. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve been through acquisitions, divestitures, and downsizing,” MacPherson said. “Bob helped me discover a new path where I could take charge of my career and provide a valuable service to growing businesses.”

Terrell launched his coaching business five years ago after a long career in the oil and gas industry in Texas. Coaching allows him to use his mentoring and business skills to empower people to fulfill their dream of self-sufficiency through business ownership. Since 1984, The Entrepreneur’s Source has taken an education-based approach to help people determine their goals to reach financial freedom. Our coaches strive to develop a safe space where people can expand their knowledge of various options that can confidently achieve their business goals.

“The cyclical nature of the oil and gas business was challenging. I wanted to build a business with diverse market segments,” Terrell said. “Coaching lets me use my existing skills to run a successful business and provide a valuable service to my clients. As a coach, I can build connections with business leaders in my local community.”

Launching a Career 2.0®
MacPherson began his coaching journey by outlining his Income, Lifestyle, Wealth, and Equity™ goals. He determined he wanted to cut his commute by finding a remote opportunity that would allow him to build wealth and generate a steady income.

“I’m at the top of my game. My skill set is higher than it has ever been. I’ve got wonderful knowledge, leadership skills, and a wealth of strengths to draw upon,” MacPherson said. “It started to become clear to me that I needed to do something where I could take more control of my life. I wanted to find something that energized me and where my income didn’t rely on the quarterly financials of a big company.”

MacPherson is familiar with entrepreneurship. In 2003, he launched a successful boutique marketing services agency focused on helping startup and emerging growth technology firms define branding, digital, and marketing programs to position them ahead of industry competition. Ultimately, he returned to a corporate role because he lacked the support and resources he needed to reach his business goals.

“Craig was very engaged during his coaching journey. He was invested in learning to ensure he made an informed decision,” Terrell said.

In his latest entrepreneurial venture, MacPherson forged a strategic partnership with WSI, a renowned digital marketing leader. WSI is a full-service digital marketing company that offers him the ability to build a growth marketing-focused agency providing strategic advice on all areas of digital marketing. As part of WSI’s business model, MacPherson relies on his expertise to oversee the digital marketing strategy of his clients and leverages the resources of the company’s production centers and suppliers to deliver the best possible solutions. WSI provides the training, tools, and resources MacPherson needs to build a successful business. Having access to a network of fellow agency owners gives him an unmatched competitive edge.

“Coaching was instrumental in getting me to my Career 2.0, and I’m really excited and looking forward to the weeks and years ahead. Launching a business is the right move.”
