Finance Executive Turns Entrepreneur With Career Ownership Coaching

In a bold career shift, Brian Sullivan transitioned from a high-stakes role in banking and financial services to launching his own business in the senior care industry with the help of career ownership coaching from The Entrepreneur’s Source®.

Sullivan’s background managing large-scale operational changes in the finance sector equipped him with the ability to spearhead projects and drive innovation. He held executive roles at numerous financial institutions, including Truist and Bank of America. In his last role at Truist, he was responsible for overseeing, managing, and leveraging the entire life cycle of business investment projects and programs. He served as the primary point of contact and trusted advisor for investment portfolio stakeholders.

“I liked putting resources together, making a plan, and executing the plan to help the company meet its goals. I liked the variety it provided and the chance to work with a lot of different people,” Sullivan said.

Despite his success, the fulfillment he sought from his career began to diminish. During a career transition, he decided to explore new opportunities. The quest for a venture that offered both personal satisfaction and professional autonomy led him to consider entrepreneurship.

“I was burnt out from corporate culture. I was tired of putting in the extra effort and still feeling unfulfilled,” Sullivan said. “I wanted to do something that would allow me to see my personal investment in action. I wanted a role that would reflect my passion, focus, and dedication, and have more immediate personal payback.”

Reaching a Point of Clarity
The turning point in Sullivan’s career journey came when he met Kim Boike, a Career Ownership Coach™ for The Entrepreneur’s Source. Boike had also made a significant career transition from a 27-year tenure in teaching to owning her own career ownership coaching business. “He was open to learning and exploring his options. He wanted to learn about the possibilities that were out there,” Boike said.

After looking at several options, he discovered Assisted Living Locators, a senior care advisory service. The business aligned with his passion for serving others. Its promise of a quick start-up and comprehensive operational support resonated with Sullivan’s objectives, making it an ideal choice for his entrepreneurial debut. He launched his business in early February and is beginning to establish a foothold in the senior care market in Atlanta.

“Assisted Living Locators enabled me to use my natural talent in a fulfilling role without all the red tape many senior service providers require,” Sullivan said. “The franchisees in our system work as a team. They’re invested in doing what’s right for our clients.”

In addition to helping Sullivan find a business that matched his goals, Boike introduced Sullivan to innovative financing strategies such as Rollovers for Business Start-ups (ROBS) to help him get started. The ability to invest a portion of his retirement funds into his new venture without incurring penalties provided him with the capital he needed to launch his business.
